Natural light
We were told to go outside and take advantage of the sun as one of our artist uses light excessively in his work (Gregory Crewdson) however he uses unnatural light but we did not have this therefore we had to use the natural light outside. Thankfully we were lucky as it was a very sunny day, as you can see in my photos we have a lot of streaks of light going through, however it still doesn't look like my artists work as I said he uses artificial light and this will allow him to highlight ay part pf the photo that he wants however we were not able to manipulate the light like this, instead we had to work with what we had. However later in, the sun went down so although the pictures are very bright there is less streaks of light.
My work
Gregory Crewdson's work
The photo on the right by Gregory Crewdson's shows a women sitting among multicoloured flowers and I wanted to recreate this as we were going outside and this could be easy. However as it is winter and we do not have a lot of flowers out in the field, I decided to add a twist of my own by getting a daisy, that was growing every around me and placed it as if I were smelling it to bring a element of something floral into my work. I positioned myself like how the lady is positioned where her head is looking off to the left hand corner and this is also what I am doing. On the lady, on the right, the artificial light used by Gregory Crewdson shows us through the streaks which way the audiences eyes should be flowing, therefore in instinct we follow the light streak and the woman eye to look at the bottom left corner. In my photo, although we did not have streaks of light going in the same way, as natural light is not very predictable. However I tried to use the wind which blew parts of hair to the left hand side of the photo to show where the audience should be looking, also the way that my body is positioned also helps to bring this forward. One thing however I do not like is that, my photo I have used depth of field t make my foreground more in focus and the background very blurry. However his work is very different as he uses no depth of filed and the photo as a whole is very clear and consistent which can deliver a greater message to the reader.
